For instance, the Indian health app ‘Practo’ exemplifies
user-centred design by providing an easy-to-use platform
for users to book medical appointments, consult doctors
online, and access health records. Practo caters to diverse
user needs by offering features like personalized doctor
recommendations, telemedicine options, and user-friendly
health records management. This approach ensures that
people from different backgrounds can manage their
health conveniently, meeting the varied needs of its users
and creating a positive healthcare experience.
The core principles of UCD include:
Useful Usable Desirable Accessible Credible
1. Useful: A product should fulfil a need or create value. Zomato, a food delivery and restaurant discovery
app, fulfils this by connecting users with local dining options, helping them discover, order, and enjoy a
variety of cuisines at home.
2. Usable: Usability ensures that the product is easy to navigate. IRCTC Rail Connect, the Indian Railways’
ticketing app, offers a streamlined booking process that simplifies complex ticket booking, tracking, and
cancellation, making travel accessible for millions across India.
3. Desirable: The product should evoke positive feelings and be enjoyable to use. Nike’s fitness app, for
instance, combines sleek design with motivational features, making workouts appealing and encouraging
users to maintain fitness routines.
4. Accessible: Accessibility makes sure the product can be used by people of all abilities. Google’s TalkBack
screen reader on Android phones supports visually impaired users by providing spoken feedback, allowing
them to interact with the device independently.
5. Credible: Trust is essential in building long-term user relationships. Aadhaar’s UIDAI portal, India’s national
digital ID system, upholds credibility by prioritizing secure access and reliable information management,
giving users confidence in accessing and updating their digital identity.
