Designing User Personas and Storyboarding for a New App Interface
Students will work in groups of 2-3 to design user personas and storyboard scenarios for a new app
interface. They will:
T
A 1. Select a Target App Idea: Each group selects an app idea (e.g., fitness tracking, study planner,
S meal planning) that they will focus on for creating user personas and storyboard scenarios.
K
2. Develop User Personas: Use the User Persona Template in Canva
2
l Create two distinct user personas based on different demographics, needs, goals, and pain
points.
l Include detailed characteristics for each persona such as age, occupation, daily habits, tech
savviness, goals, and common frustrations.
3. Create Storyboards: Use the Storyboard Template in Canva
l Outline the journey of each persona interacting with the app in a specific scenario (e.g.,
planning a workout or creating a weekly meal plan).
l Include at least three scenes showing the persona’s interaction with the app interface, their
goals, and any challenges or moments of satisfaction.
4. Present Findings: Each group presents their personas and storyboard to the class, explaining the
key interface design features they prioritized for each user.
User Experience and Ergonomics
User Experience (UX)
User experience (UX) involves designing products to offer seamless, enjoyable, and meaningful interactions.
Successful UX design prioritises usability, accessibility, and pleasure, creating products that resonate with
users’ needs and encourage ongoing use.
The Amazon App, for example, demonstrates effective UX through its personalised
shopping experience. By using algorithms that track user behaviour, it recommends
products tailored to individual preferences, creating a shopping experience that feels
customized. The app’s intuitive navigation and one-click purchase option make finding
and buying products quick and simple, reducing any friction points that might disrupt the
shopping flow.
Additionally, Amazon’s accessibility features—such as text resizing and compatibility with
screen readers—enhance usability for users with disabilities, providing an inclusive digital
shopping experience.
The Tata Neu App offers another strong example of UX by
consolidating multiple services, like shopping, dining, and
travel, within a single platform. Tata Neu’s multi-service
design allows users to seamlessly navigate between services
without needing to learn new interfaces for each feature.
This consistency in design and ease of access creates a
smooth and user-friendly experience that simplifies complex
tasks across various services. For an India-specific audience,
the app resonates well, offering a tailored experience that
meets local needs and preferences.
