Create a Game to Promote Awareness About Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Skills #Communication
Design a card or board game that focuses on one of the Sustainable Development Goals (e.g., Zero Hunger, Quality
Education, Clean Water and Sanitation, Climate Action, Life Below Water). The game should combine fun with learning
and inspire players to take action on the chosen goal.
l Choose a particular SDG for your game:
° Research the key aspects of the SDG.
° Identify challenges, actions, and goals related to the issue.
l Create a Mind Map:
° Outline the components of the SDG, such as problems, solutions, stakeholders, and potential impacts.
° Highlight engaging ways to address the issue in the game.
l Brainstorm Ideas:
° Discuss with your group how the SDG can be gamified.
° Consider if the game will involve solving problems, completing tasks, or navigating scenarios.
l Design the Game Concept:
° Plot/Narrative: Develop a storyline related to the SDG. For example, in a game on Climate Action, players
could reduce carbon emissions while managing resources.
° Strategy: Decide whether the game will be cooperative or competitive.
° Game Plan: Define how the game will progress (e.g., moving around a board, collecting resources, or making
strategic choices).
° Characters/Elements: Include meaningful elements like tokens, cards, or characters that reflect the SDG.
l Establish Mechanics:
° Define the levels, rules, rewards, and choices.
° Incorporate challenges and actions players must take to progress.
l Create a Prototype:
° Use cardboard, thick paper, or recycled materials to make a rough version of your game.
° Sketch and label elements like cards, board, or tokens.
l Test the Game:
° Have another group from your class play the game.
° Gather their feedback on playability, engagement, and learning outcomes.
l Refine the Game:
° Improve your game based on the feedback.
° Make adjustments to rules, design, or elements to enhance the experience.
You can also design an instruction manual or brochure to explain the game to players. Demonstrate your game to the
class. Highlight how it combines fun with learning and its relevance to the chosen SDG.
