Project 1
Students learn how to solve a Communication Design problem using the design thinking process in
this module. Students are encouraged to apply the skills and information they have learned in the three
preceding modules—Publication/Communication Design, Moving Images Design, and Information Design.
Recall that the design thinking process follows the following steps:
l Empathize: Learn about the various needs of the users
l Define: Describe the users’ needs and challenges
l Ideate: Brainstorm and create ideas
l Prototype: Develop solution(s)
l Test: Try out the solution

Task Topic: Design Thinking Process Project: Communication Design Collaborative Project
Theme: Communication Design for addressing SDG Goals:
The Sustainable Development Goals were created by the UN with the intention of improving living conditions
on Earth. The United Nations adopted these in 2015 as a global call to action to eradicate poverty, safeguard
the environment, and guarantee that everyone lives in peace and prosperity by 2030.
For this task, students need to think creatively, research, and develop original solutions where communication
design may help with these problems. Each group of two to three students focuses on a distinct aspect of the
problem space, such as users, media, problem areas, communication techniques, etc.
