Decisiveness
Decisiveness is the ability to make quick and profitable choices. How can an entrepreneur develop this skill?
When it comes to starting a business, decisiveness is the most vital quality to have. It is all about recognising
and capitalising on opportunities. An opportunity is a chance to do something, usually at the correct time or
period.
Decisiveness can be developed via the process outlined below:

Analyse/Understand
the opportunity
Let us consider Sonia's story to understand her entrepreneurial venture.
Sonia lives in a small village in Himachal Pradesh. She sells hand-knitted woollen socks. However, she is not
very successful in her venture. One day she discusses her problems with her friend. Her friend advises her to
become an online seller. Sonia likes the idea and immediately registers online and starts selling her woollen
socks. She realises that her product and price are better-suited for her online business. She then divides her
products into two. She sells the better quality hand-knitted woollen socks online and the low quality hand-
knitted woollen socks in her village. She starts earning quite a profit from both sides.
Can you evaluate Sonia’s conduct in terms of the four dimensions of decisiveness? Provide an explanation
for each point. For example: understanding the opportunity — Sonia realised she could sell her woollen socks
in both her village and online.

action we need to take but do not act on it because we believe we are incapable of completing the task.
In such cases, it is critical to reach out to those we work with in order to brainstorm ideas and inspire us to
believe in our talents.
Let us read the story about Sunny, who wanted to work in the field of jewellery design.
Sunny was always interested in jewellery designing. He studied the latest
international styles and would keep practising designing jewellery on his laptop. BE EFFECTIVE
However, his family wanted him to study coding and work in a software company. TAKE INITIATIVE
After two years of struggling with what to do, Sunny spoke to his teacher. She
encouraged him and made him realise that he needed to take command of his life. He then summoned the
strength to speak to his family. He described that he had the talent to design jewellery and the skills to run an
