A green job contributes to and sustains the transition to ecologically-sustainable modes of production

                           and consumption.
                           Green  jobs,  also  known  as  green-collar  jobs,  are  jobs  in  agricultural,  administrative,  research  and
                       ÿ
                           development,  industrial,  and  service  sectors  that  contribute  significantly  to  protecting  or  restoring
                           environmental quality.
                           A green-collar worker is someone who works in the economy's environmental areas.
                       ÿ
                           Professionals  such  as  green  building  architects,  environmental  consultants,  waste  management  or
                       ÿ
                           recycling  managers,  environmental  or  biological  systems  engineers,  landscape  architects,  solar  and
                           wind energy engineers and installers, green vehicle engineers, organic farmers, environmental lawyers,
                           and businessmen dealing with green services or products are examples of green-collar workers.
                           The  government,  in  collaboration  with  business  partners,  is  promoting  energy  awareness  and
                       ÿ
                           technologies for energy efficiency, influencing consumer behaviour, and establishing energy codes.
                           To overcome the skilled labour shortage, the Indian government is looking at long-term development.
                       ÿ
                           The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship has established the ‘Green Jobs Skill Council’.
                           ‘Make in India’ is intended to encourage investment, accelerate innovation, improve talent development,
                       ÿ
                           safeguard intellectual property, and construct best manufacturing structures.
                           Organic farming, which avoids synthetic pesticides and fertilizers, helps maintain soil health, prevent
                       ÿ
                           water pollution, and protect beneficial insects and organisms.
                           Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) provide valuable training and technological support to farmers and
                       ÿ
                           local youth, encouraging sustainable practices such as agro-waste collection, storage, and reuse.
                           The  shift  towards  fuel-efficient  automobiles  and  alternative  fuels  is  creating  numerous  green  job
                       ÿ
                           opportunities in the transportation sector.
                           The Ministry of Power’s Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) is driving the transition to electric
                       ÿ
                           vehicles (EVs) by building a market for sustainable transport solutions.
                           Green jobs are essential in creating toxin-free homes by promoting sustainable construction, renewable
                       ÿ
                           energy, and eco-friendly materials.
                           Photovoltaic (PV) Installers play a crucial role in setting up and maintaining solar panels on residential,
                       ÿ
                           commercial, and industrial properties.
                           Eco-friendly tourism destinations create a positive impact by offering experiences in protected areas,
                       ÿ
                           wildlife reserves, and cultural heritage sites while ensuring minimal environmental disruption.
                           Green  building  design  focuses  on  using  sustainable  materials,  energy-efficient  systems,  and  eco-
                       ÿ
                           friendly construction techniques.
                           Green jobs in solid waste management focus on sustainable waste handling practices, including e-waste
                       ÿ
                           recycling, waste reduction, waste auditing, and waste control.
                           Appropriate  technology  promotes  small-scale,  eco-friendly  innovations  that  use  locally  available
                       ÿ
                           resources to meet community needs sustainably.
                           E-waste management is essential for handling discarded electronic devices like mobile phones, laptops,
                       ÿ
                           and televisions in an environmentally responsible manner.
                           Forests help prevent landslides, wetlands control floods, and healthy soils absorb carbon, reducing
                       ÿ
                           greenhouse gas emissions.
                           The  Government  of  India's  National Action  Plan  on  Climate  Change  (NAPCC),  launched  in  2008,
                       ÿ
                           outlines eight missions focused on renewable energy, water conservation, sustainable agriculture, and
                           ecosystem protection.
