What is Design?
Have a look at the given images. Which one do you think refers to design?
As you can see that all images have some element of design in them. Steve Jobs (cofounder of Apple
Macintosh) once said, “Design is not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works.” The dictionary
defines design as “the way in which something is planned and made or arranged”
Hence, a design is a distinct and detailed concept of an object, method, or system. It can also relate to
nature of something. Design is the activity of imagining and planning for what does not yet exist. It is used in
the development of structures, environments, interfaces, goods, services, features, and processes.
Design is a study and practice discipline that focuses on the interaction between a person and the man-
made environment. It considers aesthetic, utilitarian, contextual, cultural, and socioeconomic factors. Some
examples of design are animation design, architectural design, fashion garment design.
Who is a Designer?
A designer is a highly creative person who enjoys problem
solving. They like being creative because they are sensitive
to people’s needs and comprehend the scope of society’s
problems. This sensitivity enables a designer to be intuitive and
to consider opportunities that improve people’s lives. A designer
can recognise the finer parts of an issue or situation in order to
help improve it through innovative designs.
