                                                                                            Skills
                                                                                         (Design Thinking Handbook)
Now that you understand how senses influence personal spaces, it’s time to observe the world around
you and design your own sensory-based artifact or object.
                         Task Instructions:

T Step 1: Choose One or Two Senses
A Select one or two senses that you want to focus on for this task:
                S • Sense of Touch
                K
                         • Sense of Sight
                1
                         • Sense of Hearing
                         • Sense of Smell
                         • Sense of Taste
Step 2: Pick an Object to Design
Make a list of personal artifacts or objects that you would like to design using the selected senses.
                         Some examples could be:
                         • A wearable watch for children with difficulty in seeing
                         • Climbing shoes for better grip
                         • A raincoat for the monsoon
                         • Jewelry for birthday celebrations
                         • A soft rattle for a one-year-old child
                         • A plate for eating dosa
                         • A toy with different textures
(You can choose your own object too!)
Step 3: Ask Questions to Understand the Design Better
Think deeply about your selected object. Ask questions like:
                         • What is the purpose of this object?
                         • Why is it needed?
                         • How will it be used?
                         • Who will use it?
                         • Where and when will it be used?
Step 4: Brainstorm and Create a Mind Map
                         • Brainstorm ideas, noting down keywords related to your chosen object.
                         • Create a Mind Map showing different aspects: users, issues, areas of improvement, positive points,
                            challenges, and innovative ideas.
Output: Prepare a Mind Map of your selected artifact based on sensory design.
Include sub-topics like sensory needs, user needs, challenges, and possible creative solutions.
                         Primary Research:
The Primary research involves the following:
                         1. Identify users for your chosen area
                         2. Converse with the users involved with this activity to get a better understanding (take down notes),
try to understand the activity from the user’s point of view (empathize with the user)
                         3. Identify the objects that are involved and understand how it works (document these)
                         4. Document through photography or sketching the different aspects of the problem being solved
Output: Make a summary presentation involving images and short text in form of a report or slides
(around 6 to 10 pages or slides)
