What is SCAMPER?
SCAMPER is a creative thinking tool that helps you come up with new ideas or improve existing ones. It gives
you a set of questions or prompts that push you to look at a product, service, or idea from different angles.
Sometimes, we get stuck thinking in just one way. SCAMPER breaks that pattern by helping you explore
seven different ways to rethink, improve, or reinvent something. Each letter in the word SCAMPER stands for
a different action:

By asking SCAMPER-style questions, you can improve everyday items, solve design problems, or even create
something completely new!
Let us use SCAMPER to think about our problem. Here are a few sample SCAMPER ideas:
Technique Idea
Substitute Use Velcro straps instead of zippers
Combine Add charger + USB holder + notebook section
Adapt Inspired by roll-up pencil cases or jewelry boxes
Modify Make it foldable with magnetic flaps
Put to another use Can be used while traveling or in class
Eliminate No hard shells to reduce weight
Reverse Open from both ends for quick access
Thus, by using this technique one can explore and consider several alternative ways to solve the problem at
hand just like we did in this example!
Stage 3: High Fidelity Prototype
To create a basic version of your organizer idea.
(A high-fidelity prototype is a realistic and interactive model of a product, used in later design stages to
closely simulate the final look, feel, and user experience.)
