8. Observe how people use and move through a shared space and suggest improvements.
l Visit the school library during a break or free period.
l Sketch a simple layout with labeled zones.
l Use arrows to show movement and symbols for areas where students gather or avoid.
l Write a short suggestion based on your observations.
                  Zones observed:
                  l Reading section (crowded)
                  l Computer area (underused)
                  l Entry desk
l Window corners (quiet, some students sit there)
                  Movement:

l Most students enter, go straight to the reading table.
l Few use the computer area.
l Window corners are used by students who want silence.
Suggestion: Rearranging furniture to create cozy corners near windows and promoting the computer area for
research use may balance the space better.

              9. Redesign a familiar public-like space by observing users and identifying problems.
l Observe how students and visitors use the school entrance during peak hours.
l List 3 problems faced by users.
l Suggest 2 design changes to improve user experience.
l Optionally, add a rough sketch of your idea.
                  Observed Problems:
l Students crowd near the gate while waiting.
l Visitors have no clear waiting area.
l Rain causes water puddles at the entrance.
                  Design Suggestions:
                  1. Add a shaded sitting area for parents and visitors.
                  2. Install proper drainage and a covered path for rainy days.
(Optional Sketch): Bench area + roofing near entrance with signage for visitors.

              10. Identify different users of a public space and understand their needs.
l Think about a nearby community park or public garden.
l Make a stakeholder map listing different types of users.
l For each user group, mention one specific need or expectation.
                                    Stakeholder Group Need/Expectation

Children Safe play area with slides and swings

Elderly people Shaded benches and walking paths

                                          Joggers Clean, well-marked jogging tracks

Street vendors A corner for setting up stalls
Maintenance staff Storage for tools and access to water

Conclusion: A well-designed park must balance play, comfort, exercise, and safety for all users.
