desired consequences. It enables us to realise our ambitions, persevere in our pursuit of success, and live a
happy life with a positive attitude.
Optimism is essential to achievement and it is also the foundation of courage and true progress.

Motivation
The term “motivation” is derived from the word “motive.” Thus, the essence of motivation is guiding behaviour
toward a specific objective or goal. An individual’s motivation might arise from within (intrinsic motivation) or
be motivated by people or events outside of themselves (extrinsic motivation).
Intrinsic Motivation/Self-Motivation
It covers activities for which there is no obvious reward but that provides happiness and fulfilment. People are
internally motivated to accomplish something because it gives them pleasure. They believe it is significant or
what they are learning is significant. Motive or goal-related incentives can fulfil a person’s needs.
Extrinsic Motivation
It occurs as a result of external rewards or incentives. For example, employees who are hired on a contractual
basis for an extended period may become dissatisfied and quit the organisation as a result of a lack of motivation
or incentives.
Factors Influencing Self-Motivation
Some of the factors that influence self motivation are as follows:
• Finding and Listing Motives (Needs and Desires): Self-motivation begins by identifying what drives you.
These can include both basic needs (like food, safety, and health) and personal desires (such as career
goals, relationships, or personal achievements). By listing your motives, you can clarify what you’re striving
for and create a stronger sense of purpose.
• Finding Sources of Motivation and Inspiration: External sources of inspiration play a key role in fueling
self-motivation. These may include music, books, activities, or even role models. Listening to an inspiring
song, reading an uplifting story, or engaging in creative activities can reignite your passion and help you
stay motivated.
• Expansive Thoughts: Cultivating an expansive mindset means thinking beyond your current limitations. It
encourages you to challenge the status quo and seek growth opportunities. When you think expansively,
you envision possibilities that push you toward greater accomplishments and higher standards.
• Living Fully in the Present Moment: Self-motivation is also influenced by the ability to stay present and
focused. By living fully in the moment, you avoid distractions and procrastination, keeping your energy
focused on the task at hand. This improves productivity and reduces stress, making it easier to stay
motivated.
• Dreaming Big: Big dreams fuel motivation by providing a long-term vision. When you set ambitious goals,
you are more likely to push yourself harder, overcome obstacles, and stay focused on what you ultimately
want to achieve. Dreaming big helps you build a sense of possibility and excitement that sustains your
motivation through challenges.
Positive Attitude
A positive attitude makes people happy and aids in the formation and maintenance of relationships. It can
even improve one’s chances of success. Furthermore, it might assist the individual in making better selections.
For people who retain a positive or optimistic attitude in life, events and obstacles are more likely to succeed
than those who have a negative attitude. A positive mindset contributes to better mental and physical
health.
