Ex 3. The following pictograph shows the number of books borrowed by students, in a week, from the library
of the Middle School, Ginnori — Days Number of Books Borrowed ( = 1 Book)
Based on the above pictograph, answer the Monday
following questions:
(a) On which day were the minimum number Tuesday
of books borrowed? Wednesday
(b) What was the total number of books Thursday
borrowed during the week? Friday
(c) On which day were the maximum Saturday
number of books borrowed? What may be the possible reason? (NCERT)
Sol. (a) On Thursday, the minimum no. of books were borrowed.
(b) Total 24 books were borrowed during the week.
(c) The maximum number of books were borrowed on Saturday because Sunday is a holiday, so students
have time to study books.
Ex 4. The following pictograph shows the number of tractors in five different villages. (NCERT)
Observe the pictograph and answer the following questions:
(a) Which village has the least number of tractors?
(b) Which village has the most tractors? Villages Number of Tractors ( = 1 Tractor)
(c) How many more tractors does Village C have Village A
than Village B? Village B
(d) Komal says, “Village D has half the number Village C
of tractors as Village E.” Is she right?
Sol. (a) Village D has the smallest number of tractors. Village D
(b) Village C has the most tractors. Village E
(c) Village C has 8 tractors and village B has 5 tractors.
Difference = 8 – 5 = 3.
So, village C has 3 more tractors than village B.
(d) Village D has 3 tractors and village E has 6 tractors. Yes, Komal is right, village D has half the
number of tractors as village E.
