Sol. (a) Total number of cars which passed though the crossing between 6 am and noon

= 150 + 1200 + 1000 + 820 + 700 + 600 = 4470
(b) During the 6-7 am time interval, less traffic occurred as compared to other hours from 7 am–noon,
because it is very early and people are generally sleeping.
(c) Traffic was heaviest between 7 am and 8 am as there were more people using their vehicles to reach
their office or workplace.

(d) Traffic was less each hour after 8 am all the way until noon because there were no school buses on
the road, and people had gradually reached their office.
Ex 2. The adjoining bar graph shows the population
of India in each decade over a period of 50
years. The numbers are expressed in crores. If
we were to take 1 unit = one person, drawing
the bars would be difficult! Therefore, we
choose the scale so that 1 unit = 10 crores.
The bar graph for this choice is shown in the
figure. So, a bar of length 5 units represents
50 crores and of length 8 units represents
80 crores. Based on this bar graph, answer the
following questions:
(a) How much did the population of India
increase over 50 years?

(b) Which decade saw the highest population
growth and by how much?
(c) Which decade saw the minimum population
growth and how much?
(d) What is the difference in the population growth in the first and last decade?
(e) How much did the population increase in each decade? (NCERT)

Sol. (a) Increase in population of India over 50 years = (102 – 36) crores = 66 crores.
(b) 1991 to 2001 saw the highest population growth i.e., (102 – 84) crores = 18 crores.
(c) 1951 to 1961 saw the minimum population growth i.e., (44 – 36) crores = 8 crores.

(d) Population growth in the first decade i.e., 1951–1961 = 8 crores (from part (iii))
Population growth in the last decade i.e., 1991–2001 = 18 crores (from part (ii))
Difference in the population growth in the first and the last decade = (18 – 8) crores = 10 crores

(e) Population increase in each decade is as follows: 1951 to 1961: 8 crores; 1961 to 1971: 10 crores;
1971 to 1981: 14 crores; 1981 to 1991: 16 crores; 1991 to 2001: 18 crores.

Ex 3. Pooja collected data on the number of tickets sold at the Bhopal railway station for a few different
cities of Madhya Pradesh over a 2-hour period.
