Exercise 8.3

                   1. Construct the artwork ‘Wavy Wave’ with an arbitrary length of the central line AB and the waves
                      being smaller than half circles.
                   2. Construct the artwork ‘A house’ in which all the sides are of length 7 cm.

                   3. Construct the artwork ‘A person’ by making a good estimate of measurements other than those taken
                      in construction 17.
                   4. Construct the artwork ‘Eyes’ by making a good estimate of measurements other than those taken in
                      construction 13.

              8.9 SQUARES WITH SOME ARTWORK

              1. Squares with Curves

The figure given alongside shows a ‘Square with Curves’.
Construction 18: Construct a square with side length 8 cm, with circular arcs of radius 8 cm
inside it, as shown in the adjoining figure. (NCERT)

                Sol. Follow the given steps:
Step 1: Draw a square ABCD of side length 8 cm as explained in construction 5. A 8 cm B
                      [see figure (i)]
Step 2: To make circular arcs inside the square ABCD, we will identify four points 8 cm
                      P, Q, R, and S, where point P is 8 cm away from points A and B; point Q is 8 cm
                      away from points B and C; point R is 8 cm away from points C and D; point S is 8 D C
cm away from points A and D. By setting a distance of 8 cm between the legs of a (i)
compass and following the steps from construction 11, we get the adjoining figure (ii).
Step 3: Without changing the settings of the compass, place the pointer at Q and draw an arc through
BC. Do the same by placing the pointer at R, S, and P to get the other three arcs [see figure (iii)].
Remove all the supporting points and arcs to get the final figure (iv).
                                  P P

                                                                                   B
                          A B A A B

              S Q S Q

                          D C D C D C

                                  R R
                                 (ii) (iii) (iv)
