Sol. The unique sums of all the possible combinations of numbers on both dice are –10, – 8, – 6, – 4, – 3,
– 2, – 1, 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12. So, the numbers between (–10) and (+12) that are not possible as a sum
of the numbers on the dice are: 0, 2, –5, 7, −7, 9, − 9, 11.
Ex 18. Solve the following: (NCERT)
8 – 13 (–8) – (13) (–13) – (–8) (–13) + (–8)
8 + (–13) (–8) – (–13) (13) – 8 13 – (–8)
Sol. Using Brahmagupta’s rules for addition and subtraction, we get the following:
8 – 13 = –5 (–8) – (13) = –21 (–13) – (–8)= –5 (–13) + (–8) = –21
8 + (–13) = –5 (–8) – (–13) = 5 (13) – 8 = 5 13 – (–8) = 21
