Assertion Reason Type Questions
A statement of assertion (A) is followed by a statement of reason (R). Choose the correct option out of the
choices given below for each question:
(a) Both A and R are true and R is the correct explanation of A.
(b) Both A and R are true but R is not the correct explanation of A.
(c) A is true but R is false.
(d) A is false but R is true.
1. Assertion (A): The sum of all negative integers is less than zero.
Reason (R): 0 is the smallest whole number.
2. Assertion (A): A car travels 500 metres south and then 500 metres north. The distance travelled by
the car is zero.
Reason (R): To find the total distance travelled, we add the absolute values of the distances.
3. Assertion (A): 100 + (−100) = −100 + 100 = 0
Reason (R): For every integer a, there exists an integer –a such that a + (–a) = –a + a = 0.
4. Assertion (A): −240 + 240 − 240 + 240 − 240 + … up to 100 terms = 0.
Reason (R): Each pair of equal and opposite numbers will cancel each other out.
5. Assertion (A): There are 10 integers between 5 and 5.
Reason (R): The sum of all integers from –5 to 5 is zero.
6. Assertion (A): –9 + | –9 | = 0
Reason (R): The sum of any integer and its absolute value is zero.
Case Study Based Questions
A physics exam consists of two parts, Part A and Part B.
