Activity–1
Objective: To reinforce the concept of expanded form in terms of ‘tens’ and ‘ones’.
Materials Required: Foam cups, sketch pens
Procedure:
Take at least 3 foam cups.
On the first cup, write 0 to 9 for ones as
shown in the illustration.
On the second cup, write 10 +, 20 +, 30 +,
…, 90 + as shown alongside for the tens.
The teacher will call out a random number
from 11 to 99. Students can make any
number from 11 to 99 by turning the cups
to line up the numbers.
Activity–2
Objective: Strengthen number sense and place value (tens and ones) through clues
and deductive reasoning.
Materials Required: A decorated jar or box labelled “Mystery Number Jar”, small
paper slips or ice-cream sticks with number clues
Each slip contains a riddle-style clue. Examples:
“I have 5 tens and 2 ones.”
“I come between 57 and 59.”
“I am smaller than 60 but greater than 55. My ones digit is 7.”
Procedure:
Place all clue slips inside the Mystery Jar.
One by one, each student picks a clue from the jar.
The student reads out the clue to the whole class. Students raise their hands
to answer. The correct answer is clapped for.
The teacher discusses the numbers on the board.
