              subtrACting 1-digit numbers
              from 2-digit numbers

example: A fruit seller had 38 apples. He sold
8 apples. How many apples were left with

              him?
Solution: To know the number of apples

left with the fruit seller, we need to subtract
              8 from 38.

Step 1. first subtract the ones. Step 2. Then, subtract the tens.

                       Tens Ones Tens Ones

                         3 8 3 8
                                                                                   – 8
                    – 8

                               0 3 0

Thus, the fruit seller was left with 30 apples.
