              Before, After And Between


              The red ant is before the black ant. The black ant is between the red and brown

              ants. The brown ant is after the black ant.










              The number 14 comes just after 13 because it is next to 13 (or on the right of 13)
              in the number sequence. Also, 14 is 1 more than 13.



                          12            13             14                           14 is just after 13

              The number 12 comes just before 13 because it is on the left of 13 in the number

              sequence. Also, 12 is 1 less than 13.



                         12 is just before 13                              12            13             14


              The number 13 lies between 12 and 14.


              the numBer Line


              A line with numbers marked on it in order and at equal distances is called a number

              line. The number line below shows the numbers from 0 to 10.

              l   When we move from left to right on a number line, the numbers become bigger.

                  Numbers to the left of a given number are smaller than the number.
              l

              l   Numbers to the right of a given number are bigger than the number.

              Now, look at the following number line.

                     2 comes just before 3.         9 comes between                17 comes just after 16.
                     3 comes just after 2.              8 and 10.                  16 comes just before 17.
