                    1. 7 + 2 = 9 or 2 + 7 = 9 (a) 13 – 6 = 7, 13 – 7 = 6

                    2. 6 + 4 = 10 or 4 + 6 = 10 (b) 20 – 8 = 12, 20 – 12 = 8

                    3. 11 + 3 = 14 or 3 + 11 = 14 (c) 10 – 4 = 6, 10 – 6 = 4

Take a ball and a marker. Write a few numbers from 0 to 20 on the

ball. Some children will stand in a circle and pass the ball
around the circle. At an instance, the teacher can say STOP

and call out the number that is nearest to the right thumb

of the child who catches the ball.

The teacher can ask questions like:

                     • Double the number.

                     • What is 2 less than the number?

                     • Subtract 5 from the number.

                     • Which number is 7 more than the
                         number?

                     • How much more or less from this
                         number is the nearest number?
