Objective: To practice comparing two-digit numbers (21–50) using physical
movement and place value clues.
Materials Required: Chalk, flash cards with numbers or place value clues written
on them
Procedure:
Write numbers (21 to 50) on the floor in a large open area.
Call out a place value clue like ‘A number with 3 tens and 8 ones.’
Ask a student to recognise the number from the numbers written on the
floor and stand on that number, that is 38.
Again, call out another place value clue like ‘A number with 4 tens and 4 ones.’
Ask another student to recognise the number from the numbers written on
the floor and stand on that number, that is 44.
Call on another student and instruct him/her to identify which number is
bigger among those numbers, 38 and 44, by passing a handkerchief to the
student standing on the bigger number.
If he/she identifies the bigger number correctly, he/she will win a star sticker.
Repeat the activity with other students with different clues until time permits.
