              DIVISION AS EQUAL SHARING

              Division means equal sharing.

Christmas is a festival of joy and
              happiness. Peter and his friends

are waiting for Santa Claus. At
              midnight, Santa Claus comes with

12 gift items for the children.

He shares all the gifts equally

              among the 4 children.

12 gift boxes are distributed (shared) equally among 4 children. Each child gets 3

              gift boxes.
Also, we can say 12 divided by 4 is 3.

              This can be written as 12 ÷ 4 = 3.
                                                                                 Fast Check
‘12 ÷ 4 = 3’ is called the division expression How many gifts would each
or division fact for the statement “Twelve child get if 12 gifts were shared

divided by four is three”. among 3 children?

                   Activity
               1. Divide the class into groups of 4 students. Experiential Learning

               2. Distribute 24 or 36 beads/counters or small objects.
               3. Call out a number from 2 to 6.
               4. All the groups will make that many groups of the objects given to them.
               5. Ask them to call out the division fact based on the number of groups and the number
                  of objects in each group.
               6. Give one point for the correct division fact.

               7. Repeat for the other numbers.
