MeasureMent of weight (Mass)
Divya invites her friend Mansi to her house. Divya’s
mother is preparing cupcakes. Divya observes how
her mother measures the ingredients.
4 cups flour 6 teaspoons butter
4 tablespoons milk 6 cups powdered sugar
1 glass buttermilk 4 eggs
2 bowls dry fruits 3 tablespoons fruit extract
Divya’s mother whisks all the ingredients well and
bakes them. When the cupcakes are ready, she puts
2 pinches of sprinkles on each cupcake.
Divya noticed that her mother measured the weight of the ingredients using cups,
tablespoons, teaspoons, pinches, bowls, glasses, etc.
Cups, glasses, bowls and spoons can be of different shapes and sizes. Pinches
measured by a thumb and finger can also be different. So, weights measured in
terms of these units are not fixed.
