A glass and spoon are non-standard units of measuring capacity.

Sometimes we also measure the capacity of one larger container in terms of other
smaller containers. For example, 1 pot of milk can be poured into 6 glasses. That

means the capacity of a pot is the same as the capacity of 6 glasses.

                                                   =

l While taking a bath, fill the bucket/tub with water and count how many
times you filled your mug completely.

l Take a cup of sugar solution and fill the shells of an ice tray. How many shells are
filled with 1 cup of solution?

All these give us a rough idea of measurement, not an accurate value.

Hence, we use the standard units to measure the capacity of a container.

              Standard Units of Capacity

We measure the quantity of liquid in litres and millilitres.

                                                         1 L = 1000 mL
              Millilitre

To measure small quantities of any liquid, we use millilitres (mL).

              Litre

To measure large quantities of any liquid, we use litres (L).
