In the list, the number of lanterns is ‘less than’ the number of diyas.

              That is, 85 < 240.

When ‘<’ is used between two numbers, that means the number

on the left of the symbol is less than the number on the right of it.

Also, Number of candles < Number of diyas

              That is, 215 < 240.

Now, note that the number of sweets is ‘more than’ the number of lanterns.

              That is, 155 > 85.

Also, Number of glitter bulbs > Number of candles

              That is, 315 > 215

When ‘>’ is used between two numbers, that means the number

on the left side of the symbol is greater than the number on the right of it.

              Rules for Comparing Numbers

When the Number of Digits is Different Knowledge Desk

 A number with more digits is greater At the time of birth, a baby has 270

than the number with fewer digits. bones in its body. As the baby grows
into an adult human, some of these
Example 1: Compare 61 and 426. bones combine and the final count of
bones in an adult human being becomes
              Solution: 206.

                        H T O A 3-digit number is greater

                            6 1 2-digit number than a 2-digit number.
                        4 2 6 3-digit number
                                                                                  So, 426 > 61 or 61 < 426
When the Number of Digits is the Same

 When each given number has 3 digits, compare their hundreds digits first.

              Example 2: Compare 534 and 769.

              Solution:

                      H T O H T O The number with the greater digit

                      5 3 4 7 6 9 in the hundreds place is greater.
                                     5 < 7 So, 534 < 769 or 769 > 534
