ORDERING NUMBERS
A dance reality show is being held in
Mumbai. The contestants have to perform
in order of the numbers allotted to them.
To know who will perform first and who will
perform last among the four contestants
shown in the picture, we can arrange the
allotted numbers in order from the smallest
to the greatest or greatest to the smallest.
• 95 is the smallest number. So, we write 110 95 152 193
it first.
• 110 is the smallest of the remaining three numbers. So, we write it next to 95,
that is, 95 < 110.
• 152 is the smaller of the remaining two numbers. So, we write it next to 110, that is,
95 < 110 < 152.
• 193 is the greatest. So, we write it at last as 95 < 110 < 152 < 193.
The order of numbers arranged from the smallest to the greatest is called ascending
order or increasing order.
Thus, 95 < 110 < 152 < 193 is the ascending order of the allotted numbers.
The order of numbers arranged from the greatest to the smallest is called descending
order or decreasing order.
Thus, 193 > 152 > 110 > 95 is the descending order of the given numbers.
