Swati has 24 beads. She needs 8 more beads to make a necklace. How

many beads are used in a necklace?

To know the total number of beads, let us find the sum of 24 and 8.

First arrange the numbers one below the other according to their

place values.

Step 1. Add the ones and regroup. Step 2. Add the tens.
4 + 8 = 12 ones = 1 ten 2 ones 1 + 2 = 3 tens

Write 2 in the ones column and carry over Write 3 in the tens column.
