CheCKING SUBTRACTION WITh ADDITION

Rinki joined the students committee and deposited `80. She withdrew `45 in the

same month. Hence, she was left with 80 – 45 = `35. Now she wants to check if
her subtraction was correct or not. So, she checks as follows:

8 0 Minuend 3 5 We get the minuend.
– 4 5 Subtrahend + 4 5 So, the answer is
3 5 Difference 8 0 correct.

Let us look at a few more examples.

The answer is correct. The answer is correct.

Thus, the sum of the ‘difference’ and the ‘subtrahend’ is the ‘minuend’.
That is: Difference + Subtrahend = Minuend
