Objective: To form different shapes by joining the pieces of a tangram

Materials Required: Card paper, scale, pencil, a pair of scissors

               Procedure:

Š Take a piece of card paper and cut a square of size 8 cm by 8 cm from

                      it.

Š Draw three horizontal and three vertical lines on it at equal gaps

using a pencil and ruler, so that the big square is divided into 16 small

                      squares.

Š Draw one complete diagonal and one incomplete diagonal of a big

square, as shown here. Then, draw one square and one triangle using
                      these diagonals (red lines).

Š Cut the big square into 7 pieces (tans), as shown below. You can use
                                                                                                          3 4
different colours for each piece. 6
                                                                                                            5
                                                                                                         7 2
                                                                                                             1

Š Arrange these pieces of the tangram to form different shapes.

                    For example,

                                  Horse Rabbit Cat

Š Each group will make their own shapes using the tangram pieces. The group with

the most number of shapes, wins.
