Now, let us place a mirror along the line of symmetry on each piece.

                                    Mirror Mirror

                                    Mirror Mirror line
                                     line

We see that the shape in the mirror (image) looks the same as the shape on the left
side (object). Together, they form the complete shape. So, the object and its image are

              symmetrical across the mirror line.

Example: Which of the following figures are symmetrical? Draw the line of symmetry
              for each.

                   (a) (b) (c) (d)

                   (e) (f) (g) (h)

Solution: Figures (d), (e), (g) and (h) are symmetrical about the dotted line (line of
symmetry) because they are exactly the same on both sides of the dotted line.

Figures (a), (b), (c) and (f) are asymmetrical figures because we cannot draw

any line that divides the figures into two halves matching exactly.

                      Fast Check Get it right!

                    Draw two geometric figures,
one symmetrical across a line Symmetrical
                    and the other asymmetrical. Asymmetrical

Teacher’s Encourage the students to find symmetry in their own bodies and things around them.
