1. Take a metre rod or a measuring tape and a rope or a thread and make
a knot at one end of it.
2. Keep the metre rod along the rope and mark one metre on the rope. Make a
knot there.
3. The length between the two knots is one metre. This
rope is one metre long.
4. Fold it in half. This will be a half metre long and fold it in half again. This is a
quarter metre long.
Find the lengths of different objects by using one metre, half metre, and quarter
metre ropes. Write their names and tick the appropriate boxes.

Conversion
Metre into Centimetre
To convert metres into centimetres, we multiply the number of metres by 100.
Example 1: My mother bought 4 m of cloth to make a kurta. What is its length in cm?
Solution: 4 m = (4 × 100) cm = 400 cm
Metre and Centimetre into Centimetre
To convert metres and centimetres into centimetres, we multiply the number of metres
by 100 and add the product to the number of centimetres.
