To find the weight of the objects, we use a balance and weights of different measures.

Nowadays, a variety of weighing machines used for measuring weights accurately. Some

              are shown below.

              units of Measuring Weight

We use standard units such as milligram, gram and kilogram to weigh objects.
                          Milligram Gram Kilogram

                  • Used to measure very Used to measure the Used to measure heavy
                                                  •
                                                                                  •

Examples: Weight of a Examples: Weight of a • It is denoted by ‘kg’.
feather, a safety pin, a book, a packet of chips, Examples: Weight of a boy, a
medicine, etc. etc. basket full of apples, etc.

              Conversion

              Kilogram into gram

To convert kilograms into grams, we multiply the number of kilograms by 1000.

Example 1: Convert the following into g.

                           (a) 9 kg (b) 4 kg

              Solution: (a) 9 kg = (9 × 1000) g = 9000 g (b) 4 kg = (4 × 1000) g = 4000 g

Teacher’s Ask the students about the use of different units of weight using examples related to their daily lives.
