exPaNDeD Form oF a Number
Expanded form of a number means expressing the number as the sum of the place values
of its digits.
For example: Th H t O

9 ones = 9 × 1 = 9
8 tens = 8 × 10 = 80
5 hundreds = 5 × 100 = 500 Expanded form of 4589
4 thousands = 4 × 1000 = 4000 is 4000 + 500 + 80 + 9.
staNDarD Form
When we write a number using digits 0-9 according to their place values, the number is
said to be in standard form.
For example: 7000 + 500 + 80 + 4 = 7 × 1000 + 5 × 100 + 8 × 10 + 4 × 1
= 7 thousands + 5 hundreds + 8 tens + 4 ones 7584 = 7000 + 500 + 80 + 4
