Example 5: Two containers contain 18 L 300 mL and 17 L 900 mL oil. Find the total quantity
of oil in the two containers.
Solution: L mL
1 1
Quantity of oil in the first container = 1 8 3 0 0 Olive Sunflower
Oil
Quantity of oil in the second container = + 1 7 9 0 0 Oil
Total quantity of oil in both the containers = 3 6 2 0 0
Thus, the total quantity of oil in the two containers is 36 L 200 mL.

L mL
Quantity of milk sold in the evening = 9 8 5 0 0
Quantity of milk sold in the morning = – 8 0 3 0 0
Difference in both quantities = 1 8 2 0 0
Thus, he sold 18 L 200 mL more milk in the evening.
