Example 2: There are 5009 bags of rice in a godown. If 3639 bags are taken out, how
many bags will remain in the godown?

              Solution: th H t O
                                                                                       4 9 10
                             Number of bags in the godown = 5 0 0 9
                             Number of bags taken out = – 3 6 3 9
                             Number of remaining bags = 1 3 7 0

Thus, 1370 rice bags will remain in the godown.
Example 3: The sum of two numbers is 8197. If one of the numbers is 3994, find the

              other number.
              Solution: th H t O

                                                                                       7 11
                             Sum of two numbers = 8 1 9 7

                             One number = – 3 9 9 4
                             Other number = 4 2 0 3

Thus, the other number is 4203.
