                Step 3: Multiply the hundreds. H T O
                        2 hundreds × 4 = 8 hundreds 1 2
                          8 hundreds + 1 hundred = 9 hundreds 2 4 5

Write 9 in the hundreds column. × 4
                          Thus, 245 × 4 = 980 9 8 0

              Example 2: Multiply 383 by 6.
                                                                                            Be Aware
Solution: Th H T O Practise to keep the carry over
in mind. It will help in doing the
                                    2 4 1 calculation fast.

                                        3 8 3
                                × 6
                                    2 2 9 8 Thus, 383 × 6 = 2298

              2. Write in columns and find the product of the following.
                   (a) 83 × 8 (b) 77 × 6 (c) 305 × 2

              Multiplication by a 2-digit nuMber

              Multiplication of a 2-digit Number by a 2-digit Number

              Example 1: Multiply 42 by 12.

Solution: On expanding the multiplier, we find 12 = 10 + 2 = 1 ten and 2 ones. So, we
multiply the multiplicand 42 by 2 ones and 1 ten step by step as shown below.

                           Step 1: Multiply 42 by 2 ones.
                                                                                             H T O
                               42 × 2 ones = 84 ones
                                                                                                 4 2
Write 84 as the first line product. × 1 2

                                                                                                 8 4 1st product
