Now, observe how the 5-faced and 4-faced cubes are formed using the following nets.

                                                   Open cube Hollow cube

                                                                                      4-faced cube
                               5-faced cube
              nets of a cuboid

We know that in a cuboid, the flat surfaces are
rectangles instead of squares. A cuboid and its net

are shown here. Observe that the opposite faces of
              a cuboid are equal.

              Prism and Pyramid

A prism has two identical, parallel bases, while a pyramid has only one base and a
single point at the top called the apex.

              Prism

A prism is a 3D shape with two parallel, congruent (identical) bases.
The faces connecting the two bases are rectangles. Prisms are named after the shape

              of their bases.
A rectangular prism has a rectangle for its top and bottom bases (a cereal box or

tissue box). A cube is a special kind of rectangular prism where all the faces are
              squares.

A triangular prism has a triangle for its bases (a slice of pizza or a camping tent).

Triangular Prism Rectangular Prism Hexagonal Prism

5 faces (2 triangular and 6 faces (2 squares and 8 faces (2 hexagonal and
                  3 rectangular), 9 edges, 4 rectangular), 12 edges, 6 rectangular), 18 edges
                          6 vertices 8 vertices 12 vertices

              Pyramid

A pyramid is a 3D shape with a polygonal base. The faces are all triangles that meet
at a single point, or apex, at the top.

Pyramids are also named after the shape of their base.
