                1. tick () the figures which are divided into two mirror halves by the dotted
                    line.

                    (a) (b) (c) (d)

                2. What will come next in the given patterns?

                    (a) (b) 10 100 1000 10000 __________

              Symmetry

Look at the butterfly shown below.

This butterfly has open wings. Here it has folded its wings.
We can see that both the wings overlap.

We can say that the butterfly is symmetrical because both its halves are exactly the same.
A figure is said to be symmetrical if it can be folded along an imaginary line to form two
equal halves that exactly fit on each other. This imaginary line is called the line of symmetry.

Look at the following objects or figures.

All these figures are symmetrical. The dotted lines show the lines of symmetry.

Any figure which does not possess this property, that is, does not have a line of
symmetry, is called an asymmetrical figure.

              Look at the following figures.

These shapes do not have a line of symmetry. So, these are asymmetrical figures.
