                      Challenge Question
You receive a parcel that, when placed on a digital scale, weighs 1050 g. Inside, there are
several identical weights of 200 g each, along with one extra small weight. How many 200 g
weights are there in the parcel? What is the weight (in grams) of the extra small weight?

              Other units of Measuring Weight

Quintal and ton are two other units used for measuring heavy weights.
Often, we measure the weight of a sack of wheat and that of rice in quintals.

Heavy things like trucks and containers are measured in tons.

                   1 Quintal = 100 kg
                       1 Ton = 10 Quintals = 1000 kg

              example 5: Convert the following:
                           (a) 3 tons into kg (b) 520 kg into quintals and kg

                           (c) 5 tons into quintals (d) 4 tons 2 quintals into kg
              Solution: (a) We have 1 ton = 1000 kg

                                Therefore, 3 tons = 3 × 1000 = 3000 kg
                           (b) We have 100 kg = 1 quintal

Therefore, to convert kg into quintal, we will divide by 100.
                                520 ÷ 100 gives Q = 5 and R = 20

                                So, 520 kg = 5 quintals 20 kg 100 520 5 quintal
                           (c) We have 1 ton = 10 quintals 500 kg
                                                                                                    20
                                Therefore, 5 tons = 5 × 10 = 50 quintals
                           (d) We have 1 ton = 10 quintals = 1000 kg and 1 quintal = 100 kg

Therefore, 4 tons 2 quintals is
                                = 4 × 1000 kg + 2 × 100 kg Alternative Method

                                = 4000 kg + 200 kg 4 tons 2 quintals
                                                                     = (4 × 10 + 2) quintals ( 1 ton = 10 quintals)
                                = 4200 kg = 42 quintals = 42 × 100 kg ( 1 quintal = 100 kg)
                                                                     = 4200 kg

                    (c) 45 g into mg (d) 140 g 203 mg into mg

                2. Convert the following into g.
