                    (c) 3065 g into kg and g (d) 25605 mg into g and mg
                4. Convert the following.

                    (a) 14 tons into quintals (b) 125 quintals into kg

                    (c) 1200 quintals into tons (d) 13 tons 8 quintals into kg

              Addition And SubtrAction of weightS

We first arrange the given measurements of weight in columns of appropriate units
and then add or subtract column-wise.

              Example 1: Add the following:
                             (a) 38 kg 278 g and 56 kg 783 g
                             (b) 8 kg 270 g 875 mg and 14 kg 186 g 68 mg

              Solution: (a) kg g (b) kg g mg

                                      1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1

                                      3 8 2 7 8 8 2 7 0 8 7 5
                                   + 5 6 7 8 3 + 1 4 1 8 6 0 6 8
                                      9 5 0 6 1 2 2 4 5 6 9 4 3

                             Thus, 38 kg 278 g + 56 kg 783 g Thus, 8 kg 270 g 875 mg + 14 kg 186 g

                             = 95 kg 61 g. 68 mg = 22 kg 456 g 943 mg.

              Example 2: Subtract the following:
                             (a) 15 kg 783 g from 23 kg 370 g

                             (b) 6 kg 486 g 865 mg from 15 kg 600 g 20 mg
              Solution: (a) kg g (b) kg g mg

                                         12 12 16 9 9 9 11

                                      1 2 2 6 10 15 5 10 10 10 1 10
                                      2 3 3 7 0 1 5 6 0 0 0 2 0
                                   – 1 5 7 8 3 – 6 4 8 6 8 6 5
                                          7 5 8 7 9 1 1 3 1 5 5

                             Thus, 23 kg 370 g – 15 kg 783 g Thus, 15 kg 600 g 20 mg – 6 kg 486 g
                             = 7 kg 587 g. 865 mg = 9 kg 113 g 155 mg.

Example 3: The total weight of three friends, Rohan, Rehan and Vivan is 108 kg. If
              Rohan’s weight is 37 kg 250 g and Rehan’s weight is 38 kg 550 g, what is Vivan’s
              weight?
