example 4: The Sharmas consumed 8 L 350 mL of milk and the Vermas consumed
11 L 125 mL of milk in a week. Who consumed more and by how much?
Solution: 8 L 350 mL < 11 L 125 mL
So, the Vermas consumed more milk.
Now, L mL
10 10
0 0 12
Milk consumed by Vermas = 1 1 1 2 5
Milk consumed by Sharmas = – 8 3 5 0
Difference in consumption = 2 7 7 5
Thus, the Vermas consumed 2 L 775 mL more milk than the Sharmas.

2. Add the following measurements of capacity.
(a) 50 L 725 mL, 18 L 80 mL and 10 L 225 mL
(b) 32 kL 864 L and 18 kL 435 L
(c) 9 kL 72 L 70 mL and 8 kL 25 L 750 mL
(d) 25 kL 7 L 65 mL and 18 L 456 mL
3. Subtract the following measurements of capacity.
(a) 19 L 750 mL from 90 L 770 mL (b) 26 kL 28 L from 30 kL 40 L
(c) 17 kL 450 L 140 mL from 35 kL 26 L 470 mL
(d) 19 L 300 mL from 17 kL 378 mL
4. A dairy sold 68 L 850 mL, 98 L 760 mL and 84 L 90 mL of milk on three consecutive
days of a certain week. What was the total sale of milk in these three days?
5. A water tanker carried 12 kL of water. It distributed 4 kL 950 L of water in colony
A and the remaining quantity in colony B. How much water did colony B receive?
6. A tank was emptied at a rate of 1250 L per hour and took 2 hours to empty
completely. What was its original capacity in kL and L?
