00:00 hours to 00:59 Add 12 hours and write the 00:44 hours 12:44 a.m.

01:00 hours to 11:59 Write the same time using 08:50 hours 8:50 a.m.

13:00 hours to 23:59 Subtract 12 hours and write 16:49 hours 4:49 p.m.

example 1: Maya goes to school at 7:30 a.m. Write the time in the 24-hour clock
format.

Solution: To write the 12-hour clock format, that is, a.m. time
in the 24-hour clock format, we just write the same
time without a.m.

So, we write 7:30 a.m. as 07:30 hours in the 24-hour
clock format.

example 2: A train departed from platform 1 at 15:45 hours.
Write the time in the 12-hour clock format.

Solution: To convert the 24-hour clock time between 13:00
hours to 23:59 hours in the 12-hour clock format,

subtract 12:00 hours and write the time using p.m.
So, 15:45 hours = 15:45 – 12:00 = 3:45 = 3:45 p.m.

Thus, the train departed at 3:45 p.m.
