                       Practice time 2C

              Solve the following word problems.

                1. Mr Sohan withdrew `26,800 on Monday and `37,400 on Tuesday

from his bank. How much money did he withdraw from the bank in
                    all?

                    costs `13,750.

                    (a) Find the cost of the computer and scanner together.
                    (b) Find the cost of the computer and printer together.

                    (c) Find the cost of the scanner and printer together.
                    (d) Find the cost of all three items.

                3. The population of City A is 25,301; population of City B is 35,701 and population
of City C is 49,032. What is the total population of the three cities?

                4. In a zoo, 54,987 people visited in January; 34,567 in February
and 25,793 in March. How many people visited the zoo in

production of toys in these three years.

                6. In an election, there were three candidates. They received 76,953; 75,243 and
98,934 votes, respectively. How many votes were polled, if there was no invalid

                    vote?

              subtraCtion of numbers

In the previous class, we have learnt subtraction of numbers up to 9999. Here we
will extend our learning and subtract bigger numbers, that is, 5- and 6-digit numbers.

Let us continue the conversation between Madhu and Megha.
Madhu: Also, tell me how many more fauna species are there than flora species?

Megha: As I told you earlier, over 81,000 species of fauna and 47,000 species of
flora have been found. So, around 34,000 more species of fauna are there than flora
              in our country.

Madhu: How do you calculate their difference so easily?

Megha: With the help of subtraction.
                       81,000 – 47,000 = 34,000. This is a subtraction of 5-digit numbers.
