subtraction of 5- and 6-digit numbers without regrouping
Let us understand this it with the help of examples.
example 1: Subtract 24,511 from 65,633.
Solution: Given, 24,511 from 65,633 which means 65,633 – 24,511.
So, write 24,511 below 65,633 in the place value columns properly and
then subtract starting from the right side.
Step 1: Subtract the ones.
3 ones – 1 one = 2 ones
Write 2 in the ones column.
Step 2: Subtract the tens. tth th H T O
3 tens – 1 ten = 2 tens 6 5 6 3 3 Minuend
Write 2 in the tens column. – 2 4 5 1 1 Subtrahend
Step 3: Subtract the hundreds. 4 1 1 2 2 Difference
6 hundreds – 5 hundreds = 1 hundred
Write 1 in the hundreds column.
Step 4: Subtract the thousands.
5 thousands – 4 thousands = 1 thousand
Write 1 in the thousands column.
Step 5: Subtract the ten thousands.
6 ten thousands – 2 ten thousands = 4 ten thousands
Write 4 in the ten thousands column.
Thus, 65,633 – 24,511 = 41,122.
example 2: Find the difference of 4,21,434 and 7,93,567.
Solution: Since, 4,21,434 < 7,93,567
Write 4,21,434 below 7,93,567 in the place value columns.
Step 1: Subtract the ones.
7 ones – 4 ones = 3 ones
Write 3 in the ones column.
