Materials Required: Square grid paper and coloured pencils of two different colours.

Procedure: Let us multiply and .

Divide the class into pairs.
Give them a sheet of square grid paper and instruct to draw a rectangle
of size of 5 × 7 on it. Here, the rectangle has 5 rows and 7 columns.

To represent on the rectangle, one student of each pair will colour

To represent on the same rectangle, the other student of the pair

will colour 3 columns in blue.
Now, the pair will count the number of double-shaded squares and
the total number of squares in the rectangle.
Here, the number of double-shaded squares is 12 and the total
number of squares in the rectangle is 35.
The fraction for the double-shaded squares over the total
number of squares will be the required product. Here, the 4
