activity
Objective: To understand timekeeping using the sun’s position.
Materials: A paper plate, a straw or straight stick, a marker, and some modelling clay.
Procedure:
Push the straw through the centre of the paper plate. Use clay to hold it upright.
On a sunny day, place the sundial on a flat ground. At the top of the hour (e.g.,
9:00 AM), mark where the straw’s shadow falls and write the hour.
Repeat every hour. You have now made a simple clock that tells time using shadows.
