objective: To practice the unitary method and compare prices to make smart consumer
choices.
Materials required: A list of grocery items printed out as per the number of groups,
along with their quantities and prices. It should have the same item from two brands.
Procedure:
Group students and provide a copy of the grocery list to each group.
For each item on the list, students must use the unitary method to calculate the “unit
price” (e.g., cost per litre, cost per kg, cost per 100g).
Based on the unit price, students must decide which brand is the “better deal” and
circle it on their worksheet.
Students will then calculate the total cost of the items they bought by adding up the
prices of all the “better deal” items they chose.
observation:
Students will fill out a table comparing the unit prices of different brands.
Students will calculate a final bill for their purchased items.
