For data to be meaningful and useful, the items of data must be gathered or captured and
              recorded in a systematic manner.

Organising the Data in tabular fOrm Or tally Chart

When the raw data is arranged in a tabular form, the process is called organising data.

              tally marks

Tally marks are vertical lines (|) they are also called bars. Tally marks are always represented
in bunches of five. The first four tally marks are drawn as |, ||, |||, |||| and the fifth tally

mark is drawn diagonally across the first four tally marks to make a group of five ( ).
For example, if an observation appears once, we put one bar (|); if an observation appears

twice, we put two bars (||); if an observation appears thrice, we put three bars (|||); if an
observation appears four times, we put four bars (||||); but if the observation is repeated
five times, we put four bars vertically and the fifth bar diagonally ( ).

              tally Chart

A tally chart is a quick and easy way to count how many data items there are in each
category. We represent each item as a tally mark.

Example 1: Let us consider the marks scored (out of 20) in a Maths test by 30 students
              of class V.

                      18 18 9 13 10 18 11 11 10 18
                      19 16 12 15 13 20 10 9 14 17
                      14 15 19 11 17 15 10 18 16 11

Let us prepare a tally chart for the above data.

                                10                                ||||                               4
