The adjoining bar graph represents the number
of students of class V who like to play different Favourite Sports of
                                                                                             Class V Students
              sports.
Here, the sports have been shown along the
horizontal axis and the number of students

              along the vertical axis.

A suitable scale on the vertical line (Y-axis) is Number of students
                            1 unit = 5 students.

From the given bar graph, we can easily read the

number of students who like to play different
sports as: There are 40 students who like
swimming, 50 students who like basketball, 40 Name of sport
students who like cricket and 45 students who

like badminton. We can also find the answers to a number of other questions, such as
which sport is the most popular among the students, etc. from the above graph.

Example: The bar graph given alongside shows the
number of activity kits sold by a bookseller in the Activity Kits Sold in Different Months

months from April to August. Read the bar graph
              and answer the following questions:

( a) How many activity kits were sold in the
                        month of April?

( b) How many activity kits were sold in the Number of activity kits sold
                        month of July?

( c) In which month was the maximum

                        number of activity kits sold?

( d) In which month was the minimum number
                        of activity kits sold? Months

( e) How many activity kits were sold in these five months?

Solution: ( a) 16 activity kits were sold in the month of April.

( b) 14 activity kits were sold in the month of July.

( c) The maximum number of activity kits was sold in June.
( d) The minimum number of activity kits was sold in May.

( e) Number of activity kits sold in the month of April = 16

Number of activity kits sold in the month of May = 10
