Addition of greater numbers is the same as that of smaller numbers. Let us add the amounts
of money `32,34,578 and `23,55,500 that were saved by the parents.

To add large numbers, follow the steps. C TL L tth th H T O
Step 1: Write the addends in columns according 1 1

                       to their place values. 3 2 3 4 5 7 8
              Step 2: Start adding from the ones column, then + 2 3 5 5 5 0 0 Addend
move to the tens, and so on. Addend
              Step 3: Use regrouping if required. 5 5 9 0 0 7 8

The total amount of money saved by the parents is `55,90,078.

              example 1: Add the following.
                    ( a) 7,93,648 and 3,57,364 (b) 29,36,436, 12,46,438 and 4,15,643

example 2: An NGO planted 4,12,250; 3,34,278; and 2,43,581 saplings across the country
on three successive years. How many saplings were planted in total during these three
              years?

              Solution: L tth th H T O

                                                                    st
                          Number of saplings planted in the 1 year = 4 1 2 2 5 0
                                                                    nd
                          Number of saplings planted in the 2 year = 3 3 4 2 7 8
                                                                    rd
                          Number of saplings planted in the 3 year = + 2 4 3 5 8 1
                          Total saplings planted in all three years = 9 9 0 1 0 9

Thus, 9,90,109 saplings were planted in three years.
